The Project File: Western Springs Asbestos Removal
Our Asbestos Project Management team was called to a home in Western Springs to remove asbestos in floor tiles. We confirmed the tiles did contain asbestos, and the adhesive used to connect the tile to the subfloor had asbestos as well. Usually, when we remove asbestos ridden tile, we’ll remove the adhesive as well, since it typically contains asbestos as well.
The Asbestos Removal Process
Before we start removing asbestos, we ensure the rest of the home is sealed from the area we’re working in, with a 6mm plastic sheet. We will then switch off the HVAC system to prevent contamination to the rest of the home during the asbestos removal process. Our team then installed a HEPA exhaust system, to create negative pressure from inside the work area. The system is vented outside through a carefully sealed window opening.
Once our team is dressed in protective gear, we begin the process of carefully removing the tile and adhesive from the floor using a wet gross removal method. We carefully place all of the dangerous materials in wrapped and sealed double 6mm polyurethane bags, those bags are then placed in a 55-gallon sealed fiber drum for proper disposal.
When our team is hauling and disposing of the waste, we ensure we’re in compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations. Once the fibers are removed, we HEPA vacuum and cleaned with amended water and collect another air sample, performed by an IDPH licensed air sampling professional to ensure all of the fibers are gone. Check out the before and after photos of the asbestos ridden flooring in their laundry room.
