The Project File: Oak Park Asbestos Removal
The asbestos removal professionals at Asbestos Project Management were contacted in December 2018 by Oak Park homeowners to remove asbestos tiles in the basement of the home.
After determining the home’s 9-inch by 9-inch basement tiles contained asbestos, we also discovered the adhesive used to secure the tile also contained asbestos. Finding both the tile and adhesive containing asbestos is a common occurrence and removing both simultaneously is a job that our team handles often.
The Asbestos Removal Process
As usual, the first step in our process was to close off the basement from the rest of the home with 6mm plastic. We then shut down all HVAC systems to prevent contamination during the mitigation process.
Next, our team installed a HEPA exhaust system, creating negative pressure from inside the work area. This exhaust system was vented to outside the home through a basement window.
We then donned our protective and began the process of methodically removing the tile and adhesive from the concrete basement floor using what as known as the wet gross removal method.
While removing the tile, we placed all the hazardous materials in wrapped and sealed in double 6mm polyurethane bags which were then placed in 55-gallon sealed fiber drums.
We then HEPA vacuumed and wet wiped the basement floor using amended water. The hauling and disposal of the waste were done in complete compliance with all Federal, State and local rules and laws.
As our final step, clearance air sampling was completed by an I.D.P.H. licensed air sampling professional and air samples were analyzed by an independent laboratory.
