The village is located at the confluence of the Kankakee and Des Plaines rivers, forming the Illinois River. Channahon was once a farming community, but over time, it’s become an affluent suburb outside of Chicago.

Founded in 1961, the village was incorporated and shortly after incorporation, development projects started resulting in industrial growth. Channahon’s park district was formed in the 1970s and maintains many parks, facilities and programs for everyone.
