La Fox is a small community located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population of Kane County, Illinois is approximately 527,286 people. Kane County is the fifth most populous county in Illinois, with a population that has been steadily increasing over the past few decades due to its proximity to Chicago and the region’s economic growth. Part of Blackberry Township, this town is connected with the larger community as well by being only four miles west of Geneva and just five miles east of nearby Elburn.
The history of La Fox dates back to the mid-19th century when the Chicago & North Western Railroad built a station there in 1854. The community was named after George Fox, a prominent Quaker leader, and was originally settled by farmers who grew crops such as corn and wheat. Over the years, La Fox remained primarily an agricultural area with a few small businesses and homes.
Despite its small size, La Fox is home to a number of community events and organizations, including a 4th of July parade and festival, the La Fox Fall Festival, and the La Fox Community Center. The area is also known for its natural beauty, with many parks, trails, and outdoor recreational opportunities available.
While outside the city, La Fox is situated about 40 miles west of Chicago. Being part of the Chicago metropolitan area, La Fox is served by the Metra commuter rail system’s Union Pacific/West Line, making traveling to Chicago a breeze for visitors and residents alike.
Today, La Fox is still a rural community, surrounded by farmland and open space. The area is known for its natural beauty and open space, and efforts are being made to protect these resources for future generations. This can be seen by the La Fox Land Protection Project, which is working to protect farmland and open space through conservation and land preservation methods. Many of the original town buildings still stand, including the La Fox General Store, which has been in operation since 1907.
In recent years, there has been some development in the area with the construction of new homes and businesses. One notable project is the Prairie Commons development, which is a mixed-use development featuring retail, office, and residential spaces. The development is located on the northeast corner of Route 38 and La Fox Road, and is intended to serve as a hub for the surrounding community.
In addition to the Prairie Commons development, there has been other residential development in the area, with new homes being built in and around La Fox. These new developments offer a mix of housing options, including single-family homes and townhomes, and aim to provide affordable housing options for residents.
While juggling change and tradition can be difficult, La Fox, Illinois offers a great place for growth. With a mix of visitors, growing families, young professionals, and locals from the surrounding community, La Fox is an exciting community with lots to behold.
A town with such history can often hold dangerous asbestos within the walls of the local homes built there. Older structures built before the 1980s often contain asbestos or asbestos materials. Plus, development and growth often mean new construction, which increases the chance for dormant asbestos fibers to be disturbed.
